Candor Forward is a program of the Candor, NY Chamber of Commerce.

Our mission is to improve the livability of Candor for its residents, to create a thriving Main Street, to create a comfortable small town destination that attracts tourists and young families, and to support our ample local creativity and entrepreneurship. In doing so, we will grow business and attract investment in our community.

Our Heritage

The first settlers arrived around 1794. In 1813 a fire burned much of the community. The source and meaning of the village name is not known. The community was formed from the consolidation of the neighboring communities of Candor Center and Candor Corners.

The village was incorporated in 1900.

Our Community

Candor is a community of doers. It's rare that there is an evening where some group isn't meeting to get something done. We have many many events ranging from weekly dinners to unique parades and festivals. Candor has been called "A small town with a big heart" because residents go out of their way to help any of their fellow citizens who are in need.

It has been home to avant-garde musician, composer and inventor of several instruments, Moon Dog (Louis Thomas Hardin)- "the Viking of 6th Avenue" and has a song memorializing it by Harry Chapin. Candor is home to unique businesses like Pucky Huddle Delight, Side Hill Acres Goat Farm, Thunderbird Atlatl, Turkey Trot Acres and Iron Kettle Farms.

We have a new Community pavilion that hosts ongoing events like our Farmers Market, Fall Fest Block Party, movie nights and music under the stars, to name just  a few. It is a quietly bustling small town with people who are willing to jump in and help at a moments notice.
